CT Dairy - Proud Tradition, Strong Future

Connecticut Dairy FarmsThank you for visiting the homepage of Connecticut Dairy Farms. Despite the fact that Connecticut is a very urbanized state, we actually have a very large and thriving dairy industry. In fact, according to a recent study by the Connecticut Department of Economic and Community Development, Connecticut's dairy industry contributes over $1.1 Billion to the state's economy and employs over 4,000 people with good quality jobs. Not to mention the huge amounts of open space we pereserve!

But Connecticut's dairy industry - and the entire dairy industry across the northeast - faces many challenges. You may not know this, but the federal government sets the wholesale price for milk a the farm gate and doesn't take into account regional production cost differences when setting this price. This means Connecticut dairy farmers are losing money on every gallon of milk they produce! The current federal milk pricing system is not adequate to sustain Connecticut's dairy industry and we are working hard to change that.

Well dairy farmers have a reputation for being very smart business owners. We've made significant strides in the past 18 months to try and preserve the dairy industry in Connectiuct. Just last year the Connecticut legislature funded an emergency relief fund for state dairy farms and the federal government - led by Connecticut's Congressional contingent - started to address the problem as well. With these efforts and the continued support of taxpayers like you, Connecticut's Dairy Industry will have a strong, prosperous future and Connecticut residents will continue to enjoy food security and a fresh, local source of milk and milk-related products.
